Abstract

Teaching a foreign language requires a great deal of skiII. A person, who is expected to teach a language other than his native language, should be weII-prepared and have a solid educationalfoundation in both, the language itself, and in the way it should be taught. Both, knowledge of the subject itself, and knowledge of pedagogy are essential. Our ¡nterest is to increase our students' skills in the English language, which is considered an irnportant international language. This research wiH be dealing with the presentation of strategies to increase students' rnotivation. It does not rnatter if they are in contact with the language or not. Teachers are like actors, and sorne actors becorne stars because of their good perforrnances. So let's use our best strategies to becorne star teachers and introduce in our students' rninds at least the curiosity about the second language,English. The rnain purpose of this reasearch is also to share sorne ideas to help teachers find out what brings about in the students positive attitudes toward the process of learning English and, better yet, apply the necessary techniques to encourage students to learn more. Students should khw . and understand the role of English around the world. They should be clear enough about the importance of mastering a language which is used in areas like science, business, literature, entertainment, communication, politics, technology, and so forth, in many countries. Motivation is a key factor in successful language learning, but even the rnost motivated students can lose interest during their English language stud les if they notice in their teachers sorne lack of motivation. Teachers should be careful when teaching a foreign language since not al¡ of the students share the sarne attitudes toward the new language, and when students discover in their teachers sorne kind of language behavior they dislike, then it would be very difficult for a teacher to sustain the interest of students to learn or irnprove the new language.
