Abstract

This research aims to estimate the importance of reading comprehension to learn and to improve vocabulary and grammar at Centro Regional Universitario de Los Santos specifically in freshman students of the bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a specialization in English. The problem statement of this research focused on emphasizing the importance of reading comprehension in improving English language use, enhancing grammar and vocabulary. Also, the objectives of this research focused on determining the role of reading comprehension in learning, cultivating new vocabulary and gaining a high level of fluency in the language. Consequently, the research question was answered by giving a test to forty-five students at The Centro Regional Universitario de Los Santos. Therefore, this is a descriptive research based on an experimental study to evaluate and to know the studied population in a direct way, by which it was possible to collect and analyze the information. In this way, it was possible to verify the hypothesis put forward. Finally, at the end of this research, after having scientifically proven the point studied, it is recommended that The Centro Regional Universitario de Los Santos and the University of Panama in general, take into consideration the results of this study, as they are positive results that can significantly help the student and enhance the study area.
